"The question is not, can they reason? nor, can they talk? but, can they suffer?"
I want to be alive to see an end to cruelty to animals.
I want to know that I have been part of the final thrust which has made the difference.
I want to know that I have made a difference.
Of course, I can't do anything by myself – any more than you can. But I believe that we can stop animal cruelty if we work together.
How Much Is That Doggy in the Window?by Janet Crease
How much she is that doggy in the window, the one with the waggely tail...
"Can we take it home with us mom?"
"How much is that doggie in the window?"
"For you lady it's fifty dollars" says the shopkeeper.
"So expensive" says mom. "Oh well, I guess it's something for the children to play with over the holidays."
"A home at last", thinks Puppy to itself.
"What's that on the carpet?" yells dad.
"Where are my sneakers?" says son.
Chewed sneakers, a puddle of pee on the carpet, a steaming brown pile of something in the corner, whining and crying from Pup...
"Put that thing outside" yells mom.
"I thought this was going to be a great place" thinks Pup, shivering and wet outside. "Everyone is screaming, yelling and kicking me, I just needed to pee!"
"Put that dog on a chain" yells mom, and leave it there.
More whining and crying from Pup.
"Shut up! Shut up!" yells the family and the neighbours.
Days later, peace and bliss reigns once more in the household, kids watch video games, mom and dad go about their lives. Life has got back to normal for the family.
"Anyone seen the dog?" asks dad. "No? Well, put some food out the back, it will come when it's hungry. Did it eat its last meal? Stupid dog, doesn't know when it's well off."
Tired, cold and hungry, Pup finds itself in the back of a truck and then at the Animal Shelter.
Pup thinks to itself, "This is better, food, water and no kids to pull me around and a nice warm secure place to sleep. Heaps of company, I want to stay here forever".
It's Xmas holiday time, the Shelter is overloaded, too many dumped and unwanted dogs.
"Hello Puppy" says the friendly vet. "Now, this won't hurt a bit, just a little sting."
"Night night Pup" says the attendant for more times than she has wished to utter those final words, as she cradles the puppy against her. "Off to the Rainbow Bridge".
Family at home. "I wonder what happened to that nuisance Puppy. It was a real pain in the neck, all that mess" says dad.
Peace reigns within.

These pictures are from the city of Van in eastern Turkey .
These pictures are from the city of Van in eastern Turkey , and the tragedy going on there defies our ability to communicate in a consistent manner…. It is horrific, it is beyond words, and it is REAL. Happened today just a few hours ago…
The stray dog you see here was hit by a car 3 days ago. Its back legs were broken as a result. Nobody took it to a vet or anything – it was left to lie there in agony for 3 days. It couldn’t walk, it could only crawl after the incident. A few good citizens there in Van tried to help it, they cared for it, brought food and water so that it would survive. In the meantime, they called the authorities to come and help the poor dog. It was in excruciating pain, just begging for someone to put it out of that misery…
Three days later, the municipal authorities of Van finally showed up. Not, however, to rescue the dog. To the contrary, they came to kill the dog! In fact, the municipality did not even send a vet to the area. They sent a garbage truck and garbage collectors instead of medical assistance – the dog was nothing more than a piece of garbage to them anyway. And they did what they do best: rounded up the dog, tossed him into the garbage crusher alive and crushed him to death then and there. All the while, the dog screamed, screamed and screamed until that final blow killed it..
The municipality of Van just confirmed the incident – there is no way to deny it anyway, it has been photographed by Dogan News Agency from the beginning to the end and it took place in broad daylight in the middle of the city.
AND THIS DOG LATER ON SURVIVED.... A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER, HE WAS FOUND ALIVE AND TAKEN IN FOR SURGERY IMMEDIATELY. Miracles do happen, and it happened in this case. We hope that it will survive and make a full recovery.
WE WILL ALL PRAY FOR YOU BEAUTIFUL DOG...
No matter where you live, condemn this horrific massacre. Express how disgusted you are with these images not just to the local authorities of Van, but to the Prime Minister of Turkey. Tell the Turkish authorities to STOP THIS BLOODY MASSACRE RIGHT NOW!!
"If you are a truly compassionate advocate for animal rights; please stop waving your country's flag and singing your national anthem. Animals do not understand geography, nor do they suffer within defined borders. They suffer everywhere."

The Association of Animal Welfare of Imathia was founded in 2006, however its active members have been working in the animal movement of the region for over a decade.
The basic aim of the association is the defense of the rights of animals, the promotion of animal rights and more specifically:
- The care of sick and badly treated animals, mainly stray dogs and cats.
- The neutralization/castration/geld of the strays and the promotion of their adoptions.- Follow up charges of cases of torture and ill treatment of animals.
- The organisation of events and campaigns for the promotion of animal rights and raising awareness and sensitivity among the public opinion.
- Collaboration with the Municipality of Veria in the implementation of the programme for the reduction of the number of strays
- To provide the best conditions of life to the dogs which are living in the Dog Shelter of Veria.
- To collaborate with local schools in the area for environmental education. Association ZO.I.
Although its registered members are more than 100, active members are much less. All activities of the association are exclusively supported through the volunteer work of its members, which finds its source in their deep love and sense of support for animals.
The stray animals of the town of Veroia are asking for your HELP!!
To all people who fight for the animal rights.
We are volunteers, members of the Animal Wellfare Assosiation of Imathia (ZO.I.) and we are acting in Veroia, a small town of Northern Greece.
Almost every day through the past years, stray - and not only - animals (dogs and cats) are poisoned by unknown people who hate animals.
As poison they use pesticides which causes a very painfull death to the poor animals. Everybody in Greece can buy these poisons for free.Only in the last 6 months over 100 dogs and cats were poisoned on the streets! Last week-end at least 6 more dogs were killed in this way.
Most of them were sterilized, harmless and they were seeking only for a little bit love.
We are desparate, we dont know what else to do. We are doing all the nesessary procedures in order to prevent these kind of actions and to increase the awareness of the local society but nothing changes. We also coorporate in a national and international level with other N.G.O.s for the animal rights.
The municipality sadly is indifferent about this issue, even though the stray animals, according to the Greek law, are in their responsibility and does not react at all against the poisonings.
We lost all of our hope for a better life of the strays animals of our region. We are desparate and we are now asking for your help.
Please send e-mail or a fax to the mayor of Veroia with your complains about this kind of cruelty against the stray animals of Veroia and by asking from the Mayor Mrs Haroula Ousoultzoglou to take action against those of the citizens who use these awfull and barbarian methods for vanishing the poor stray animals. Thanks in advance!
